‘Threat not credible’ after Bel Air High School placed on lockdown

UPDATE: Ysleta ISD said the threat to Bel Air High School proved not to be credible after a thorough investigation.

Here is the statement the district released in an update on Tuesday, May 7:

“Earlier today, the administration of Bel Air High School was made aware of a possible threat toward the school. Upon receiving this information, both law enforcement and Ysleta ISD Security were promptly notified and conducted a thorough investigation. Following their assessment, it was concluded that the threat was not deemed credible. Our children are safe when they are on our campus, and we take every precaution to ensure the security of every student and staff member. Classes are proceeding according to a modified schedule. Thank you.”

ORIGINAL: EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Bel Air High School was placed on lockdown Tuesday morning, May 7 for a “possible threat made to the school,” according to a spokesperson with the Ysleta Independent School District (YISD).

The spokesperson says El Paso Police and district officials are at the scene.

The spokesperson also says students are currently safe in their classrooms.

“As a precautionary measure, Bel Air High School was placed on lockdown at about 10 o’clock this morning after administration was notified of a possible threat made toward the school. The El Paso Police Department was immediately notified and are on site to investigate the situation. All students are safe in their classrooms and under direct adult supervision,” the spokesperson said.
