Elmira’s Johnny Beecher scored to help the Boston Bruins beat Washington, on Saturday. The 2019 first round draft pick intercepted a pass and slipped a shot by Capitals’ goalie Charlie Lindgren on the breakaway. The 2nd period tally gave Boston the 2-1 edge, in what would eventually be a 3-2 shootout victory. The goal accounts for Beecher’s 6th of the season and further strengthens his case to make the Bruins playoff roster. In addition to the score, the Elmira native continued his success in the faceoff dot, winning 5 draws.

Saturday’s Bruins win earned the team their 101st point of the season, building momentum as they head towards the postseason. Also of note, the Bruins vs. Capitals matchup marked the 1,000th career game of veteran Washington defenseman John Carlson. The 15-year player scored a goal in the game.

Beecher and the Bruins will next head to Nashville for a Tuesday night matchup with the Predators. Puck drop is slated for 8 p.m.
