Bedford FD responds to vehicle crash leaving truck in embankment near Mt. Olivet Road

BEDFORD, Va. (WFXR)– The Bedford Fire Department responded to a vehicle crash involving entrapment early Sunday morning.

According to the fire department, crews were dispatched at 12:35 a.m. to the Mt. Olivet Road and Dickerson Mill Road area on a report of a motor vehicle accident. Crews found a pickup truck on its side approximately 60 feet down an embankment in a small creek with the driver still inside.

The fire department worked to cut the trees surrounding the car in order to gain access and stabilize the vehicle, and extricate the passenger. Crews also placed absorbent booms in spots downstream of the accident to contain a leak from the fuel tank.

Emergency responders extract man who fell 70-feet down well in Campbell County

Firefighters were able to get the passenger out of the car. The passenger was assessed by crews and was released.

There were no other injuries reported.

Crews remained on scene for approximately two hours.
