Borrowing From Babies Is the Coolest New Makeup Challenge

Borrowing from the boys is so over. What’s next? Borrowing from babies.

Vlogger Nikkie de Jager, the woman behind the wildly popular YouTube channel NikkieTutorials, recently shared a post called “Full Face Using Only Kids Makeup Challenge,” where she uses makeup and brushes from children’s stores to achieve some colorful glam. And while the final product might not be too wearable, it still looks pretty great considering the tools she was working with.

While the beauty influencer generally uses products marketed for adults — and high-end ones at that — using kiddie makeup proved to be a real test of de Jager’s skills. “I feel like that’s doing exactly nothing for my face,” the Dutch vlogger jokes while applying a CC cream with a blush brush she picked up from Claire’s.

Though de Jager was working with different utensils than usual, she still managed to impress her fans. “How the heck did [she] put on a full face of kids makeup and somehow still look gorgeous!??” one commenter questioned. Another said, “When Nikki can do a better job with kid’s makeup than you could ever do with high end actual makeup… my life.”

While Nikkie won’t be incorporating any kids products into her daily regimen, she did note that “Children’s makeup is like freakin’ expensive. It, like, shocked me.” Nikkie admits she spent about $30 on a Minnie Mouse palette, which only a makeup artist could do justice with. While the YouTuber’s look makes the products look surprisingly useful, her overall reaction to the makeup shows that it’s simply not up to par. “That looks like mud, but we’re gonna work with it,” she says of a contour shade.

So is it time to shop in the kids department? Probably not — unless you’re going as Minnie Mouse for Halloween.
