Bears' Danny Trevathan has suspension reduced after appeal

Danny Trevathan’s suspension was cut in half, from two games to one, after an appeal, the NFL announced on Tuesday evening.

Michael Signora, a spokesman for the league, tweeted that appeals officer Derrick Brooks, who was jointly appointed by the NFL and NFL Players Association, made the decision.

It is a surprise to see Trevathan’s punishment reduced as his brutal helmet-to-helmet hit on Green Bay receiver Davante Adams during last Thursday night’s game drew condemnation from all corners. Adams was taken off the field on a stretcher and taken to the hospital.

Trevathan has never been in trouble before for an illegal hit, so that may have played a factor in Brooks’ decision to halve the suspension. Trevathan also expressed regret for the hit.

Though he remains in concussion protocol, there is reportedly a chance Adams can play Sunday when Green Bay faces Dallas.
