Bears' Danny Trevathan sees suspension reduced to one game after appeal
The NFL announced on Tuesday evening that Danny Trevathan’s suspension had been cut in half, from two games to one, after an appeal.
Michael Signora, a spokesman for the league, tweeted that appeals officer Derrick Brooks, who was jointly appointed by the NFL and NFL Players’ Association, had made the decision.
It is a bit of a surprise to see Trevathan’s punishment reduced – his brutal helmet-to-helmet hit on Green Bay receiver Davante Adams during last Thursday night’s game drew condemnation from all corners. Adams was taken off the field on a stretcher and taken to the hospital.
But Trevathan has never been in trouble before for an illegal hit, so that may have played a factor in Brooks’ decision to halve his suspension. Trevathan also expressed regret for the hit.
Though he remains in concussion protocol, there is reportedly a chance Adams will be able to play this Sunday when Green Bay faces Dallas.
