Bears get the cold shoulder in Pro Bowl

The Chicago Bears are not a great football team. However, they do have a couple of very talented players on their roster. That makes it very surprising that absolutely no Bears players were voted into the Pro Bowl this year.

Granted, they suffered injuries aplenty and lost players to suspensions this year. Kyle Long was almost a lock to make the Pro Bowl, but he injured his ankle. Alshon Jeffery, though he has had a rough year, is a Pro Bowl talent. His suspension prevented him from getting some time to rebound. Jerrell Freeman was on his way to a Pro Bowl spot, but he too was suspended for four games.

Despite all of the bad luck, there are still a few players who deserved recognition. Josh Sitton has had a very solid year. Cody Whitehair put on a dominant rookie season. Hell, even Akiem Hicks deserved some recognition. Sadly, it doesn’t seem like 3-4 defensive linemen will ever get enough credit by Pro Bowl voters. However, one player in particular stands out about the rest: Jordan Howard.

NFC’s running backs in the Pro Bowl are as follows: Ezekiel Elliott, David Johnson and Devonta Freeman. The first two are perfectly acceptable options. Elliott has had the best rookie campaign in recent memory. Plus, being in Dallas and all, he’s had the media kissing up to him all year. Johnson is fourth in rushing yards answer second in touchdowns. He is also deserving of a Pro Bowl spot, as well.

The last player, Devonta Freeman, is a questionable choice. When you look at the numbers, Jordan Howard is better in almost every key category. Howard has more yards, more yards per carry and more carries above 20 yards. Oh, and he didn’t even start in the first three games of the year.

I get that the Bears aren’t a great team – that isn’t debatable by any means. That doesn’t mean that some of their players don’t deserve Pro Bowl nods. For now, we as fans can only hope that they’ll get some more attention when they get better.
