The Bear star's new movie confirms December release date

Jeremy Allen White's upcoming film The Iron Claw has set a release date, giving fans of The Bear a first look at the star in character.

White features alongside Zac Efron, Lily James and Harris Dickinson in a24's biopic on a pro wrestler family directed by Sean Durkin (Martha Marcy May Marlene).

The film chronicles the story of the family who broke onto the wrestling scene in the 1960s and popularised the professional wrestling hold to which the movie owes its name. Coming to US screens on December 22, The Iron Claw also looks back on a series of tragedies plaguing the Von Erich family, a streak of dramatic events that became known as the Von Erich curse.

Allen plays Kerry Von Erich, one of the sons of Fritz, the patriarch of the Von Erich family who's portrayed by Holt McCallany in the film.

Following shots of Efron in character as Kevin released last year, The Iron Claw dropped a first-look image of the four Von Erich brothers today (July 27), with arms around each other showing their bond.

White, who reportedly gained 40 pounds to play Kerry, has just earned praise for reprising the role of chef Carmen 'Carmy' Berzatto in series two of The Bear.

Following season one's acclaim, White reflected on taking the role of Carmy, explaining he felt a kinship to his insecurities when his breakthrough series Shameless came to an end in 2021.

"I think that [self-doubt] was something Carmy was really struggling with, too," he told GQ. "We kind of found each other at a similar place. He knew he's really gifted at this thing, but he could be painfully insecure about his abilities as well. I was feeling a little insecure at the end, too."

The Iron Claw is set to be released in US cinemas on December 22, 2023. A UK release date is yet to be announced.
