‘Beanie bandit’ accused of stealing from central Pa. stores

OLD LYCOMING TOWNSHIP, LYCOMING COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— A man police agencies in multiple states have deemed the “beanie bandit” allegedly stole over $4,000 worth of items from two central Pennsylvania stores.

The Lycoming Regional Police Department (LRPD) says they were called to the CVS Pharmacy on Lycoming Creek Road, Old Lycoming Township, to investigate a retail theft on February 10.

According to police, CVS an unidentified black male entered the store wearing a beanie hat and white surgical mask carrying numerous bags on February 9 around 7:30 p.m.  Investigators said the man filled the bags with various over-the-counter beauty products and medicines.

LRPD’s release says their investigation led them to learn the same man had entered the CVS Pharmacy on Allegheny Street in Jersey Shore Borough on February 9 and stole the same type of over-the-counter products, valued at over $4,000.

Officers said they determined the same man was involved in multiple other similar thefts in multiple states and was deemed the “Beanie Bandit”. 

LRPD said criminal charges are pending against the New York City male. Officials urge businesses to be vigilant for this type of theft and contact 911 immediately when thefts occur.

The release did not identify the man police are calling the “beanie bandit.”
