BBC Radio 1 producer Chris Sawyer has quit the Breakfast Show with Greg James after 15 years on the programme.

Announcing the news across his social media accounts earlier this week, Sawyer confirmed today (March 15) would be his last on the show (which airs on weekdays between 7am – 10:30am) as a co-producer.

"It's my last week at Radio 1! I've been involved with more nonsense than I ever thought it would be possible to fit into a quick 15 years," he wrote on X, adding: "Friday will be my last show with Greg and the Breakfast team before I run off to a whole new world of mischief."

Sawyer went on to share his favourite memories from his time on Radio 1 in a post on Instagram, which featured a clip of his "first of many" hugs with James, floating on a large Radio 1 jigsaw in the water and his infamous "silhooette" headline typo last year.

He also included a clip of comedian Joe Lycett's appearance in the Live Lounge to introduce 'Britain's fattest dog' Bopper the Whopper alongside several throwback photos.

Radio 1 listeners were devastated by the news of Sawyer's departure, sharing their well-wishes to the producer in the comments.

"In denial, fake news, surely just a scheme," one person wrote, while another added: "The man behind some of the most memorable Radio 1 moments!!"

James also shared his apparent disbelief at the producer's exit, commenting: "I still can't 100% be sure this isn't just another scheme."

Sawyer isn't the only BBC Radio 1 employee to leave the network in the past few months, with Jordan North quitting his afternoon show back in February, after 10 years on the air.

"I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank all my wonderful colleagues / talented producers at Radio 1 who many I consider to be friends for life and will miss greatly, you’ve all reached out to me over the past 24 hours and it really has meant a lot," North said of his exit in a statement on Instagram.
