BBC ex-broadcaster sentenced for sex assaults

LONDON (AP) — Former BBC broadcaster Stuart Hall has been jailed for 15 months after he pleaded guilty to 14 counts of indecent assault against girls as young as 9.

The 83-year-old Hall had initially denied the charges. The prison sentence was handed down Monday, six weeks after he admitted responsibility for the crimes.

The offenses happened between 1967 and 1986. Prosecutors said Hall was an opportunistic predator.

BBC said after his admission of guilt that it was "appalled" and would no longer employ him.

Hall's lawyer has said he is sorry for what he has done and wants to apologize to his victims.
