Baylor QB Zach Smith is transferring
Baylor’s depth at quarterback is now perilously thin.
Quarterback Zach Smith is transferring from the school. Smith was 105-201 passing for 1,471 yards, eight touchdowns and eight interceptions in 2017. The sophomore saw significant playing time for a second-straight season after throwing for 1.526 yards, 13 touchdowns and seven interceptions as a freshman in 2016.
Smith was the team’s quarterback in a Cactus Bowl upset of Boise State at the end of the 2016 season. he was 28-39 passing for 375 yards, three touchdowns and an interception in that game.
His transfer leaves Baylor with just one quarterback who has experience. Freshman Charlie Brewer became the team’s primary quarterback over Baylor’s 1-11 season and will likely enter the 2018 season as the starter. Brewer was 139-204 passing for 1.562 yards, 11 touchdowns and four interceptions.
But there’s not much behind him at all. Brewer is the only scholarship quarterback remaining on the team.
The transfer of Zach Smith will leave #Baylor with one scholarship QB on campus at this time. Obviously, they've targeted a QB for Class of '18 and almost imperative someone signs on December 20th to be on campus for spring workouts.

According to Rivals’ commitment list, Baylor doesn’t have a quarterback verbally committed in the class of 2018. The early signing period — college football’s first — begins Dec. 20.
