Battle of the Buffalo returning to Big Spring Park on Saturday

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — If you’re in the mood for chicken wings, Downtown Huntsville has just the thing for you this weekend.

The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) has announced the 15th annual Battle of the Buffalo will be winging its way to Big Spring Park on Saturday, April 13. The university said the largest philanthropic chicken wing festival in the southeast will get cooking at Big Spring Park from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The event features live music, an inflatable obstacle course, an array of games for the whole family, and of course, plenty of wings. Restaurant and individual teams will compete for the coveted title of “Best Wings in the Tennessee Valley.”

All proceeds from the event will benefit cancer research.

The event was founded in 2009 by the brothers of the Theta Pi Chapter of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity to honor their chicken wing-loving brother, Paul “Fish” Salmon, who died of leukemia. It honors Salmon’s legacy by raising funds for the Russel Hill Cancer Foundation and HundsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology. UAH said both organizations are on the cutting edge of cancer treatment and research in the Tennessee Valley.

The event will also feature the Salmon 5k fun starting at 9 a.m. in downtown Huntsville.

Tickets for the event are $15 pre-sale and $20 on the day of. Two pounds of wings and a drink are included with the ticket.
