Battle of The Badges game returns to First Arena

ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) – Hockey for a great cause returns this Saturday at First Arena.

The annual Battle of The Badges hockey game is back for 2024 pitting local law enforcement officers vs. Elmira Firefighters. Action starts Saturday at 7 PM at First Arena with the doors opening at 6 PM. Concession stands will be open for Saturday’s game.

All funds will be raised to benefit the local agencies in both law and firefighting in the Elmira region. Admission is free for fans but donations will be graciously accepted at the door.

18 Sports had the opportunity to speak with Elmira firefighter Bailey Bourgeois on the anticipation of hitting the ice in support of those who protect the community.

“It’s amazing to not only represent not only your community but your department,” Bourgeois said.

“From our perspective, we’re going to this game and we want to win. It’s kind of built up a bit of rivalry the past few years,” added Bourgeois.

“On the job, we have mutual respect for the police officers and wearing the uniform.”

For Bailey and both sides, this Saturday is going to be a game that’s a win for all. For more information on Battle of The Badges, find First Arena on Facebook for more on Saturday’s big game.
