Baton Rouge Wearin’ of the Green Parade: What to know about parking, bathrooms

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Baton Rouge’s long-running Wearin’ of the Green Parade celebrating St. Patrick’s Day is set to roll on Saturday, March 16.

Paradegoers dressed in green gather along the route to watch floats go by and catch throws like beads, cups and trinkets. Former LSU women’s basketball player Seimone Augustus is the 2024 grand marshal.

This year’s parade rolls at 10 a.m. The route starts on Hundred Oaks Avenue, turns right at South Eugene Street, turns left at Terrace Avenue, turns left at Perkins Road and ends at the intersection of Perkins Road and S. Acadian Thruway.

Bathrooms

Bathrooms will be located throughout the route.

  • Hundred Oaks at corner S. Acadian

  • Hundred Oaks at Parker

  • Terrace at Perkins Road

  • Perkins at Reymond

Road closures

Whether you’re going to the parade or not, roads will be closed for the celebration.

According to the parade’s website, Perkins Road will be closed to traffic in both directions from Terrace Avenue to South Acadian Thruway starting at 7:30 a.m. ahead of the Shamrock Run and will reopen around 1 p.m. after the parade.

Other roads that will be closed are South Acadian Thruway from Bawell Street to Broussard Street at 8:30 a.m. Hundred Oaks Avenue/South Eugene Street/Terrace Avenue will close at 9 a.m.

Glenmore Boulevard and Hundred Oaks Avenue will limit car access starting at 7 a.m. for parade staging.

Parking

According to the parade’s website, parking is a rarity along the route. Paradegoers are discouraged from parking on private property or commercial property without written permission.

People can take advantage of rideshare services like Uber and Lyft in Baton Rouge to get to the parade.
