Baton Rouge Police still looking for answers in Allison Rice shooting death case

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Almost two years after her brutal murder, the search for Allison Rice’s killer has grown cold. For the first time, police say they have obtained a surveillance video of her murder, but it hasn’t been much help in solving the case.

“But it was at a distance to where we were unable to identify those persons who were involved in this criminal act,” said Lt. L’Jean McKneely, Baton Rouge Police Public Information Officer.

Paul Rice met us where his 21-year-old daughter was murdered Sept. 16, 2022.

“Hard to stand here knowing this is where my daughter took her last breath,” said Paul.

It was after 2 a.m. in the 1500 block of Government Street. Police say Allie had stopped for a train to pass.

She was headed to her home on LSU’s campus after a night out with friends. Police say several men approached her vehicle on foot.

“There was something that happened when they approached her. She tried to get away, shots were fired, and she then lost her life. Those are the facts that we have,” said McKneely.

Allison was hit several times in the arms and chest. Her vehicle was found next to a telephone pole. She had backed up on Government Street onto a curb on the other side of the road to get away from her assailants.

“Do the police believe that this was an attempted carjacking?” asked BRProud investigative reporter John Rupolo.

“Uh, we can’t prove that,” said McKneely.

Police say they need a break in the case. For someone to come forward with new information. They denied rumors that her death was the result of a gang initiation. Allie’s father thinks the answers lie in the neighborhood.

“And what’s even more frustrating is that nobody is speaking up,” said Rice.

Police admit the case has grown cold.

“So, you have no motive at this point?” asked Rupolo.

“The fact of it we don’t know, but what we do know is that she was trying to get away from those perpetrators,” said McKneely.
