Baton Rouge police say motel parking lot shooting ruled justified homicide

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — The Baton Rouge Police Department has released more information about a deadly shooting that happened at a motel parking lot on Monday night.

Police responded to the 9200 block of Airline Highway at the Fountain Motel around 8 p.m. and found two men dead at the scene.

According to BPRD, Michael Beverly, 28, had approached several people in the parking lot before shooting at them and one person returned fire. Beverly was shot and died as a result of his injuries.

Police said another person was shot and killed during the crossfire.

“After a thorough investigation and gathering sufficient evidence from the scene, this incident is being ruled a justified homicide,” BRPD said.
