Baton Rouge groups can apply for Summer of Hope community funding. Here’s how

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Applications for a fund focused on violence prevention initiatives in the summer in Baton Rouge opened on Friday, April 19.

According to the Office of Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome, the Summer of Hope Community Fund awards grants to organizations and nonprofits. It aims to support community-based activities that increase public safety and empower residents such as community block parties, clean-up events and mental health resources.

The goal is to keep children off the streets to reduce crime.

“It’s very important for us as a government agency to support the community organizations on the ground that are in the neighborhoods that are most high risk and at risk for violence,” said Courtney Scott, Assistant Chief Administration Officer for Baton Rouge.

Scott said they’re also looking for businesses to apply to participate as host sites in a summer initiative offering youth jobs.

A virtual information session will be held from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday, April 22. Click here to register.
