Baton Rouge group celebrating decade in its building with two April events

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — A Baton Rouge group will be celebrating its 10th year in its facility this April.

Emerge, founded as the Baton Rouge Speech and Hearing Foundation, will host a celebratory event at 8 a.m. Thursday, April 4 at its facility on Innovation Park Drive.

Some colleges will cost up to $95,000 this fall. Schools say financial aid may numb sticker shock

According to the group, Emerge has more than 200 employees on its campus and is Louisiana’s first and only tuition-free charter school for children with autism.

“We are so thankful to the Baton Rouge community for their continued support of Emerge. This support has helped us grow from our humble roots in 1960 as a small volunteer-led organization to become the Gulf South’s largest therapy and education provider for children with autism and individuals with communication challenges,” said Emerge CEO Deanna Whittle. “It is because of this community that we are able to serve thousands of children and families annually, regardless of their ability to pay.”

A second event, a fundraising gala, is planned for Saturday, April 20 at The Varsity Theatre.
