LANGLEY, B.C. - The twin brother of a Mountie killed in a crash told a regimental funeral he can only hope to be the officer and the man that his better half became.
Ben Oliver's voice was filled with emotion as he said he and his brother were most of the way toward their childhood dream of becoming Mounties together and living in houses across the street from each other.
Mourners heard that as children, the inseparable brothers dressed as Batman and Superman, foreshadowing the careers in policing they both later pursued.
Const. Adrian Oliver, an officer with the Surrey detachment, was killed last week when his unmarked cruiser was struck by a transport truck.
RCMP Commissioner Bob Paulson told the funeral Oliver embodied the values the RCMP holds dear, saying the constable was a compassionate man who became a caring police officer.
A sea of red-coated RCMP members filled the suburban Langley auditorium and politicians attended from all three levels of government and representatives of U.S. and Australian police forces.
