Oct. 16—BATESVILLE — The Batesville Memorial Public Library is hosting the following special events and activities the last two weeks of Oct..

Oct. 14 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. — COMMUNITY SHRED DAY — free shredding event. Five box limit. Truck will leave before 1 p.m. if it is full. Items that will be accepted: Office Paper; Computer Paper; Copy Paper; Post-It Notes; Note Pads (no metal bindings); Magazines; Newspapers; Envelopes w/windows; Manilla Folders, Hanging File Folders; Staples; Binder Clips; Paper Clips; Rubber Bands. The truck will be set up in the Batesville Memorial Public Library parking lot.

Oct. 16 at 5:30 p.m. — Evening Needle Felting — Needle felting workshops will take a slight detour for the next few months. Our regular instructor, Janet Paden, will be unavailable. Until she returns, we will have Free Felting Classes. You can use the kits and materials and design an object of your desire. Many experienced felters are in each session, so feel free to come even if you are new to the craft. Newcomers will be assisted through a beginner-level project.

Oct. 16 at 10 and 11 a.m. — Mother Goose Toddler Time for ages 0-3. Miss Sarah will host a 30 minute session designed to stimulate the learning process of babies and toddlers. No registration required.

Oct. 16 — 18 from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. — Observe the Moon — To celebrate Observe the Moon Night — Stop by the Batesville Memorial Public Library and take a look through our telescope we will have set up outside in our lawn. The telescope will be out to use from 6:30 p.m. — 8:00 p.m. each night.

Oct. 17 at 10 a.m., 2 and 6 p.m. — StoryTime for ages 3-6 year olds. Join Miss Sarah for a fun 45 minute session. No registration required.

Oct. 17 at 1:30 p.m. or Oct. 18 at 6:30 p.m. — A Novel Idea Book Club — A Novel Idea is BMPL's book club. Join us each month to explore and discuss the month's book. Retired English teacher Steve Holland is our book guide. The Oct. selection is The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie. After registering, ask for a copy of the book at the front desk.

Oct. 17 at 6:30 p.m. — Aging Care Series: Medicare Open Enrollment — Medicare open enrollment occurs from Oct. 15 through Dec. 7. What is Open Enrollment? What can you do during Open Enrollment? How can you improve your medication and health coverage? We understand how confusing it can be, so we are partnering with the State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) to offer a free and impartial presentation for people on Medicare. Join us to learn more about your options. No registration required.

Oct. 18 at 1 p.m. — DIY STEM Elevator — 1st — 6th grade participants will be given a wide variety of resources to create their own DIY elevator. Register at ebatesville.com/events for this Batesville Memorial Public Library Homeschool Program.

Oct. 19 at 6:30 p.m. — Moon Glow Walk — Join us at Brum Woods to celebrate Observe the Moon Night with a walk around the paved loop under the light of the moon. We will also have our telescope out for moon viewing if the weather permits. This program is for all ages! In case of rain this program will be canceled. No registration required.

Oct. 19 at 1 p.m. or 6:30 p.m. — Adult Scrapbooking — If you've never made a scrapbook layout, this session will acquaint you with this fun hobby. Using different tools and techniques, we will create a two-page spread. Everything you need will be provided, and you will get to take home the completed pages ready for your photos. Oct. 20 at 10 a.m. — Open Block Play — Join Miss Sarah in the Activity Lab for block play. Kiddos will have the choice to play with multiple different style stacking blocks. Come meet new friends and build with us. No registration required.

Oct. 21 at 10 a.m. — SATURDAY StoryTime for ages 3-6 year olds. Join Miss Sarah for a fun 45 minute session. No registration required.

But, more broadly and more fundamentally, it is sacrificing real things today to have more real things in the future. We will look at this and all the implications for an economy.
