Batesville 'big trash' plans announced

Oct. 23—BATESVILLE — "Big trash" collection will soon be taking place in the city of Batesville for the last time in 2023.

Rumpke will collect up to 10 large items (material too large to fit in a garbage can/heavier than 75 pounds) from Batesville residents who use Rumpke for trash pick-up (does not include apartment complexes) beginning at 5 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 4.

Citizens are encouraged to set their disposable items out the evening before to ensure that nothing is missed.

Acceptable items include: — Old clothing. — Furniture, bedsprings and mattresses (must be covered in cellophane/plastic). Best Way/Decatur Hills in Greensburg also accepts mattresses; call 1-800-354-1830 for pricing. — Old rugs and carpet pieces only, no rolls (75 pound weigh limit). — Rubber hose. — Appliances (washers, dryers). — Insulation. — Cans or buckets, cleaned and dry. — Paint cans (must be dried paint).

Unacceptable items include: — Electronic devices containing mercury (TVs, computers, microwaves, cell phones, etc.). — Building and construction materials (bricks, etc.). — Remodeling materials (interior/exterior). — Car body parts including wheels and tires. — Steel or metal framing. — Tree limbs, grass clippings or leaves. — Landscape materials.

Televisions, computers (and monitors), microwaves and all other electronics may be dropped off at the Batesville Area Recycle Center, 616 John Street, for a fee. Operating hours are 1 to 6 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday and 8 a.m. to noon Saturday. Call 812-801-9099 with questions.
