‘Bates Motel’ to End on A&E After 5 Seasons
“Bates Motel” will end after five seasons, producers announced at San Diego Comic-Con on Friday.
The A&E “Psycho” prequel series wrapped Season 4 in May, and will return for one final 10-episode outing in 2017.
News of the drama’s imminent conclusion merely confirms what many of the show’s viewers had been expecting following the its dramatic season finale, which saw the death of one of the series’ main characters.

“Bates Motel” is a contemporary take on the Alfred Hitchcock classic “Psycho,” starring Freddie Highmore and Vera Farmiga, providing viewers with a glimpse into Norman Bates’ teenage years.
Farmiga’s character, Norma Bates, was killed off in the Season 4 finale, bringing the show much closer to the events of 1960 horror film and the Robert Bloch novel upon which it is based, leading fans to suspect that the show may be heading into its endgame.
The critically-acclaimed series is produced by Universal Television for A&E Network. Kerry Ehrin and Carlton Cuse serve as executive producers for Carlton Cuse Productions and Kerry Ehrin Productions.
