Baseball-Marlins' Alvarez throws no-hitter against Tigers

Sept 29 (Reuters) - Henderson Alvarez of the Miami Marlins pitched a no-hitter against the Detroit Tigers in the regular season finale on Sunday when the Marlins scored in the bottom of the ninth for a 1-0 victory. Alvarez, who struck out four and walked just one, had taken the no-hitter into the ninth of the scoreless game. With the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the ninth, reliever Luke Putkonen threw a wild pitch past catcher Brayan Pena that allowed Giancarlo Stanton to score from third base for the game-ending run. Right-hander Alvarez, 23, improved to 5-6 for the season. (Reporting by Larry Fine in New York, Editing by Gene Cherry)
