Sept 14 (The Sports Xchange) - Pittsburgh Pirates right-hander Charlie Morton will replace right-hander Vance Worley in the rotation and start Tuesday night against the visiting Boston Red Sox in the opener of a three-game series. Morton has been sidelined by right hip inflammation since Aug. 16 and is expected to have surgery to repair a sports hernia at the end of the season. Morton has a 5-12 record with a 3.84 ERA. Worley moves into the bullpen. - - - Left-hander Hyun-Jin Ryu did not accompany the Dodgers on their flight to Denver on Sunday night. Instead, he returned to Los Angeles, where he will have an MRI on his injured left shoulder Monday. - - - Seattle Mariners left fielder Dustin Ackley (ankle) was not in the lineup. He has missed six of the past seven games due to bone spurs in his left ankle. - - - Oakland A's catcher Geovany Soto (back spasms) was not in the lineup for a second consecutive day, but all indications are that he will be back after the off day Monday. - - - Atlanta Braves catcher Evan Gattis missed a sixth consecutive game because of strep throat. Texas Rangers outfielder Michael Choice left the game after pulling up with a strained left hamstring while running out a two-run double in the fifth. An MRI is scheduled for Monday. - - - Kansas City Royals left-hander Danny Duffy, who missed his previous start with a sore shoulder, threw 20 pitches off the mound Sunday with no pain. He could return to the rotation Tuesday against the Chicago White Sox. - - - Cincinnati Reds manager Bryan Price said first baseman Joey Votto took underhanded pitches during a batting session as he continues to work his way back from a left quad injury that has sidelined him since early July. - - - Milwaukee Brewers third baseman Aramis Ramirez was out of the starting lineup with a sore hamstring.
