March 7 (The Sports Xchange) - Texas Rangers right-hander Yu Darvish is considering Tommy John surgery after tests revealed he has a sprained ligament in his right elbow. The Rangers announced Saturday that an MRI showed Darvish has a sprained ulnar collateral ligament in the elbow. Darvish will seek other medical opinions over the next few days before making a decision on whether to have surgery, which would end his 2015 season. Darvish left his spring training debut Thursday with tightness in his right triceps. The three-time All-Star experienced the pain while warming up in the bullpen. The 28-year-old Darvish compiled a 10-7 record with a 3.06 ERA in 22 starts last season. - - - Oakland Athletics right fielder Josh Reddick is out with an right oblique strain and could miss Opening Day, manager Bob Melvin said. Reddick sustained the injury during defensive drills Friday. He will not be allowed to take part in baseball activities for at least two weeks and could be miss 4-6 weeks. "After I got the MRI, they were telling me that it could be two months," Reddick said Saturday. "So to hear this morning that it's just 4-6 weeks is actually comforting, something of a relief." - - - Instead of wearing his trademark sideline khaki pants, Michigan football coach Jim Harbaugh was in full baseball uniform as a guest coach at the Athletics spring training camp Saturday. Harbaugh, the former coach of the San Francisco 49ers, was in Mesa, Arizona, for the A's game against the Los Angeles Angels. He was going to coach first base for an inning or two at the invitation of his longtime friend, Oakland manager Bob Melvin. "How does it get any better than that?" a grinning Harbaugh said before the game. "It's a beautiful day for baseball, and just to have a chance to put on the uniform. I haven't had a baseball uniform on since American Legion ball." - - - Atlanta Braves third baseman Chris Johnson developed a sore left wrist that prevented him from playing in Saturday's split-squad spring game. Johnson did not make the trip to Port St. Lucie, Florida, for the game against the New York Mets. He had some discomfort while taking extra batting practice Friday, but hopes to return to the lineup as soon as Sunday. Johnson ranked second among National League players with a .321 batting average during the 2013 season, but he struggled for most of 2014, hitting .263. - - - The Kansas City Royals signed free agent right-hander Chris Young to a one-year major league deal. The contract is for $675,000, with up to $5.325 million in incentive bonuses, according to the Kansas City Star. Young, 35, went 12-9 with a 3.65 ERA for the Seattle Mariners last season. - - - Cuban infielder Hector Olivera was declared a free agent by Major League Baseball on Friday, according to MLB.com.
