Baseball-Major League Baseball roundup

May 10 (The Sports Xchange) - The San Francisco Giants activated starting pitcher Matt Cain from the 15-day disabled list Saturday and he started against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Giants placed first baseman Brandon Belt on the 15-day disabled list with a broken left thumb. Belt sustained the injured Friday night when he was hit by a pitch. He is expected to miss six weeks. In a series of roster moves Saturday, the Giants also called up outfielder Tyler Colvin from Triple-A Fresno and sent down pitcher George Kontos. Injured second baseman Marco Scutaro was transferred to the 60-day disabled list to make room for Colvin on the 40-man roster. Cain landed on the disabled list after cutting his right index finger while making a sandwich. He last pitched on April 23. He is 0-3 with a 4.35 ERA this season. - - Joe Mauer returned the Minnesota Twins' lineup on Saturday after missing the previous five games with back spasms. He described his back spasms as "pretty brutal" but was able to avoid going on the disabled list. He served as the designated hitter and got a single in three at-bats. - - The Cincinnati Reds activated closer Aroldis Chapman from the 15-day disabled list before Saturday's game against the Colorado Rockies. Chapman began the season on the DL after having surgery to repair damage to his left eye and nose. The left-hander was struck in the face by a line drive during a spring training game on March 19.
