BART service resumes at North Berkeley station after man in wheelchair was struck

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — BART service at North Berkeley was halted on Monday due to a “major medical emergency,” according to a post on X at 3:35 p.m. Full service later resumed.

BART clarified that the emergency involved a man in a wheelchair who was on the track and was struck by a train.

BART was able to rescue the man, according to officials. No information was given regarding his condition or how he got onto the trackway. There is no indication of foul play.

The service disruption is impacting passengers on the Richmond Line. BART is advising riders to seek alternate means of transportation for service between Ashby and Richmond stations. AC Transit is providing mutual aid with a bus bridge at Richmond and El Cerrito Del Norte stations.

According to BART, passengers can board the #72, #72M and #72Rapid to Berkeley Station. At Berkeley Station, passengers can board the #51B and #52 toward Richmond Station.
