Former Oklahoma coach Barry Switzer has a wild theory as to why Baker Mayfield decided to grab his crotch while shouting expletives at the Kansas bench last week.

Switzer, who you can always count on for a good hot take or three, said he blames people like Madonna and Michael Jackson for inspiring legions of crotch-grabbers across the country.

“I blame it on Madonna and Michael Jackson,” Switzer said. “They started all that grabbing the crotch years ago. It’s been on social media. Everybody sees it. Everybody sees it in the movies we see it every day out there. So all of the sudden everybody gives me this hey he’s in an insult we oughta fire him we oughta kick him off the team. They’re idiots. And thank god they’re not the coach of the Oklahoma Sooners. How about that?”

It’s pretty clear that the 80-year-old Switzer viewed his interview as a bit of performance art. But it doesn’t make his theory any less surreal. Madonna and Jackson rose to prominence in the 1980s. Mayfield was born in 1995.

And we also don’t see people grabbing their crotches on a regular basis either. Maybe the greater Oklahoma City area is wilder than we ever imagined.

Mayfield won’t serve as a captain on Saturday for Oklahoma’s final home game of the season vs. West Virginia because of his actions against the Jayhawks. He won’t start at quarterback, either. But we imagine he’ll only miss a series or two.
