Shaker Heights standoff over, police confirm

SHAKER HEIGHTS, Ohio (WJW) — Police were asking people to avoid certain areas of Lee Road Sunday afternoon due to an active barricade situation Sunday afternoon.

The Shaker Heights Police Department took to social media around 2:30 to let residents know an active investigation was underway in that area of Van Aken Boulevard and also Chagrin Boulevard near Lee Road.

Euclid officer killed in ambush ID’d as 23-year-old military veteran

The bomb squad, SWAT, EMS and multiple jurisdictions, including the sheriff’s department, were on the scene for what would later be confirmed had to do with the Euclid officer who had been shot and killed Saturday night.

Authorities said Sunday night, the manhunt for the suspected shooter, identified as Deshawn Anthony Vaughn, is over.

Following a standoff, he was found deceased inside. He was heavily armed. It is not yet clear how the man was killed, police said.

Ohio BCI has also been called to the scene to assist, according to the FOX 8 I-Team, as law enforcement has been involved in the shooting. They are now investigating the incident and scene.

The perimeter was cleared down to Ashby Road after shots of some sort were heard in the area, according to FOX 8 reporters on scene, but the street was reopened on one side around 6:30 p.m.
