Barbourville to construct new city hall

Apr. 30—BARBOURVILLE — Barbourville will be constructing a new city hall in the downtown area.

A special meeting of the Barbourville City Council was called in order to accept a bid for the project on Wednesday.

However, the meeting could not commence as two members of the council were not present. Barbourville Mayor David Thompson adjourned the meeting due to the lack of a quorum.

Following the end of the meeting, Thompson gave a brief interview where he talked about the details of the new project.

He said, "The building will be about 5,000 square feet and the fire department will be built adjacent to it...It will take about a year or a year and a half to complete."

Thompson also noted that the building will be two stories tall.

Due to the lack of a quorum, the items related to the construction of the new city hall will be on the agenda of the next regular meeting of the Barbourville City Council, which is held on the first Thursday after the first Monday of each month.
