Barbecue joint with unique ‘mashups’ is voted Georgia’s best. What makes it so special?

Fox Bros. Bar-B-Q, known for its imaginative mashups, was voted No. 1 in the Peach State — for the second year in a row, according to rankings published by Southern Living on March 6.
The Atlanta eatery is a long-time favorite among foodies and previously ranked among the top 50 barbecue spots in the South, according to the magazine. The restaurant has also been featured on food program Atlanta Eats.
Barbecue lovers have their pick of menu mainstays such as smoked brisket and pulled pork, as well as other unique options.
For the annual poll, conducted by third-party agency Proof Insights, Southern Living said it surveyed more than 20,000 readers about their favorite place to grab barbecue. Fox Bros. placed among other top-ranked restaurants and destinations for the magazine’s 2024 South’s Best Awards.
The survey ran July 12 through Aug. 23.
“A parade of new, highly-acclaimed barbecue restaurants have opened all over the South in recent years, but the 2024 picks lean toward the tried-and-true,” the magazine said.
What makes Fox Bros. Bar-B-Q special?
Fox Bros. Bar-B-Q was named among the “tried and true.”
Launched by twins Jonathan and Justin Fox, the brothers opened the restaurant’s first location on Dekalb Avenue in 2007, according to its website.
“After moving from Fort Worth to Atlanta, Justin and Jonathan were homesick for Texas-style barbecue and after being unable to find the flavors they grew up with, the twin brothers decided to take matters into their own hands,” it reads.
In its report, Southern Living lauded the eatery for its Texas-style barbecue, punctuated by unique “creative barbecue mashups like ‘chicken fried’ ribs with white BBQ sauce and ‘Tomminator’ tater tots smothered in Brunswick stew.”
