Barbara Reveals Actor Who Gave Her Chicken Pox

Barbara: Michael Douglas' Wife Not Source of Virus

The day after announcing on The View that a "well-known actor" had given her chicken pox, Barbara Walters confirmed the name of that actor, who actually has a romantic history with Barbara's fellow co-host Whoopi Goldberg.

The 83-year-old newswoman -- who returned to The View on Monday after a six-week absence to recover from a head injury and chicken pox -- announced on Tuesday's show that the actor was in fact Frank Langella, as had been reported by the New York Daily News.

Walters said that she shared a New Years hug and kiss with Langella during a party in Miami and that unbeknownst to her, he was about to come down with a bad case of shingles. She explained that chicken pox can be transferred by someone with shingles and said this is how she caught the illness.

The interesting twist to the story is that Langella, 75, dated The View co-host Whoopi Goldberg for several years. The two met on the set of the film Eddie in 1996, and ended up living together until they separated in March 2001.
