Barbara C. Beazley Memorial Scholarship and CTAE Awards program at Discovery Center of the CSRA

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF)– The annual Columbia County Foundation for Children‘s scholarship awards program was held this evening in Evans.

57 high school seniors were recognized for their hard work in school- 16 of them receiving the Barbara C. Beazley Scholarship for their college education.

The others were awarded grants to Career, Technical, and Agriculture Education programs. These grants are intended to help students further their educational goals by covering expenses such as tools of the trade, testing/certification fees, professional organization membership fees, uniforms, tuition, and more.

Grovetown High School teacher, Rhonda Marschalk, was awarded the inaugural Motivating Mentor Award. The award celebrates a teacher who has been instrumental in helping students graduate, and encouraging them to pursue the future they dream about. This mentor understand that not every student is destined to attend a 4-year college. Grovetown High School received $500 to further the efforts of creating and encouraging mentorships.

Barbara C. Beazley was one of the founders of the Columbia County Foundation for Children. She was a self-made avid learner who deeply valued education beyond high school. Her favorite mission was always the scholarship program. After she died, the board honored her memory by designating the scholarship fund as the Barbara C. About Columbia County Foundation for Children: One of the Foundation’s cornerstone programs is its “Helping Hands” thrift store on Columbia Road in Appling. It not only provides essential funds for our programs, but offers clothing and household items to families in need. Additionally, the Foundation runs a Christmas program, a college and technical school scholarship program, and various benevolence programs that cover expenses like summer school, summer camps, cap & gown fees for graduation, CTAE program fees, and more. In recent years, Foundation board members initiated “The Pantry Project,” which supplies hygiene items (deodorant, soap, toothbrushes, shampoo & underwear) to Columbia County schools for distribution to children in need. Recently, they started the Scholastic Book Fair scholarships, enabling financially disadvantaged children to shop for books with their friends.
