Barbara Bush's Health is Failing, Will Not Seek Additional Medical Care
Former first lady Barbara Bush’s health is failing and she will not seek additional medical care, a spokesman for the Bush family said Sunday.
Bush, 92, has congestive heart failure and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and has been hospitalized several times over the past year, CNN reported.
Bush, who has been married to former President George H.W. Bush for 73 years, is being cared for at her Houston home and does not want to return to the hospital.
She will now "instead focus on comfort care,” according to reports.
“It will not surprise those who know her that Barbara Bush has been a rock in the face of her failing health, worrying not for herself -- thanks to her abiding faith -- but for others," a statement from the office of George H.W. Bush said Sunday.
"She is surrounded by a family she adores, and appreciates the many kind messages and especially the prayers she is receiving.”
In Jan. 2017, both Barbara Bush and the former president were hospitalized for separate health issues and unable to attend President Trump's inauguration.
