Bank of America donates $250K for Horry-Georgetown Technical College planned nursing institute

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) — A quarter-million dollar Bank of America grant will help Horry-Georgetown Technical College’s efforts at raising $2 million in support of the construction and expansion of its Nursing and Health Sciences Institute.

It’s the second major corporate donation for the project announced in less than a month, after Conway Medical Center pledged $1 million on Feb. 13.

“This partnership exemplifies the transformative impact that strategic collaborations can have on our community, and we are excited to continue working together to empower our students and build a stronger, healthier future,” HGTC President Marilyn Fore said in a news release.

The Bank of America grant will speed progress toward expanding physical facilities and attracting new students to the college’s nursing and health sciences programs.

Officials plan to spend $15 million renovating 14,122 existing square feet of space and adding an additional 10,000 square feet through the construction of a second floor.

HGTC hopes to double enrollment in its health science programs, build up the healthcare workforce pipeline and offer students clinical rotations and internships.

“We support Horry-Georgetown Technical College’s mission to provide an accessible, affordable, high-quality, collegiate education and workforce development, which is why we directed this strategic philanthropic investment to help build stronger communities,” said Kelly Tyler, president of Bank of America Myrtle Beach.

Groundbreaking is set for April 22. Completion is anticipated for January 2025.
