Bangladesh falls to New Zealand XI in 50 overs tour match

CHRISTCHURCH, New Zealand (AP) — Bangladesh slumped to a two wicket loss to a New Zealand XI in a 50-overs tour match on Sunday.

Mushfiqur Rahim made 62 from 61 balls and Mahmudullah 72 from 88 balls, sharing a 108-run partnership, as Bangladesh was bowled out for 247 in 47 overs.

Mustafizur Rahman, Mahmudullah and Mehedi Hasan Miraz each took two wickets as the New Zealand XI reached its winning target with 11 balls to spare.

Bangladesh did well to reach a competitive total after struggling to 31-4 after eight overs.

The New Zealand XI started strongly as test opener Jeet Raval made 52 in a 114-run opening stand with Andrew Fletcher, who went on to make 92 from 112 deliveries.

The home side was 227-4 in the 42nd over, cruising to victory, before stumbling as four wickets fell for 18 runs in the space of six overs.

Bangladesh meets New Zealand in the first of three one-day internationals on Wednesday.
