Band and Choir Standards Festival begins Tuesday at Bakersfield College: BCSD

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — 1,500 student musicians are set to perform at Bakersfield City School District’s three-day Junior High and Middle School band Standards Festival at Bakersfield College beginning Tuesday.

The festivals will showcase student performances, while also doubling as a benchmark student progress meeting, where music teachers from across the state will evaluate band, orchestra and choir classes performances, according to organizers.

Music instructors will also provide educational clinics. Performances will be held from 9:50 a.m. to 2:10 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday and 9:10 a.m. to 2:50 p.m. on Friday.

The festival comes as total music enrollment reaches a record 6,200 students this year, with around 1,500 performers set to participate in the festival.

The performances will be happening in the Simonsen performing Arts Center Indoor Theater at Bakersfield College. For more information visit, bcsd.com.
