Baker Mayfield responds to Texas commit's promise to beat OU
Baker Mayfield does not want Texas signees trash talking Oklahoma without comeback.
Four-star Texas signee Keondre Coburn made a promise to beat Oklahoma in his announcement he was signing with Texas on Wednesday.
I’m so happy to finally be a longhorn baby this has been the hardest process ever but it’s over and my next journey is in Austin and with my boys in this Revolution Class AND I PROMISE WE WILL BEAT OU and the rest of them pic.twitter.com/5Il1vSAmpB

Mayfield, the former Oklahoma quarterback and reigning Heisman winner, took note of the defensive lineman’s tweet Wednesday afternoon.
This is what we call being naive. Kid has no idea what it's like stepping into the Cotton Bowl. So here's how it works… The team north of the Red River doesn't flinch. But it's okay, you'll see for yourself, wish you the best.

It would have been too easy for Mayfield to ignore Coburn’s tweet, especially given his status as the best player in college football in 2017 while Coburn hasn’t taken a snap yet. But it’s also part of Mayfield’s charm (or unlikeability if you’re an opposing fan) and what makes him such a great competitor. He does not like being slighted.
If Texas beats Oklahoma in the next few seasons, Coburn better fire a tweet to Mayfield as soon as he gets a chance.
