Some Bake Off fans prefer new team to Mary, Mel and Sue
After all the channel-hopping drama and presenter shake-ups, The Great British Bake Off finally unveiled its new-look presenting team on Channel 4 tonight (August 29).
Gone were the comforting familiar faces of yesteryear (well, aside from Paul Hollywood), and taking their place in the tent were new presenting double act Noel Fielding and Sandi Toksvig as well as judge (and de facto Mary Berry replacement) Prue Leith.

Channel 4 wasn't subtle in pushing this revamp as being just as warm and comfy as the Mary Berry years, having started off the hour with Paul Hollywood talking up new judge Prue Leith's 50 years of experience directly to camera.
Whether or not Channel 4's big-money gamble actually paid off is ultimately up to the fans, so let's check in with them to see how they're adapting to all of this confectionary change:

Noel Fielding and Sandi Toksvig's breezy banter actually made some fans forget about Mel and Sue:

I sense something… happening...
I think I ship Noel and Sandi.

I'm really enjoying this episode, Noel and Sandi are good ❤️ #GBBO

New #GBBO is reassuring familiar. Main thoughts: I like Sandi's jacket and I basically have the same hair cut as Noel. All in all ✅ ✅✅
- Ellie Taylor (@EllieJaneTaylor) August 29, 2017
Loving 'new' #GBBO It's exactly the same but totally fresh! Love Noel & Sandi. Pru has huge shoes to fill so may take a while to warm to 😊👍🏼

#gbbo
Wow wow wow
This is 10 times better than BBC
Noel, Sandi, Pru and totally nailing this
Old blue eyes quite good too- *******Roy******* (@Roy__Horn) August 29, 2017
Yep, despite what most of my timeline is saying, #GBBO is great. Prue is perfect, Sandi is Sandi which I love and Noel great fun. YES!! 😊
- Alex Winters (@alexwinterstv) August 29, 2017
Not everyone was as impressed with Sandi and Noel's cheeky puns:
I feel like Noel and Sandi are trying to have the same humour as Mel and Sue? #GBBO pic.twitter.com/EBiKx9Bp6j
- SAMANTHAAA♥ (@ParkersParrots) August 29, 2017
I like Sandi. But Noel is trying WAY too hard. And the 'jokes' aren't funny. Not a fan. #GBBO #GreatBritishBakeOff pic.twitter.com/JjK6waYHZW
- JD Cavallo (@jamiecavallo) August 29, 2017
I'm loving Noel, but poor Sandi looks a bit uncomfortable #GBBO
- Becky Lea (@beckygracelea) August 29, 2017
On one hand, I want Sandi and Noel to stop trying to hard, but on the other, I miss the innuendo. #gbbo
- Charlotte Steggz 🍔 (@charlottesteggz) August 29, 2017
Like Mel and Sues innuendo but delivered via lacklustre sighs by Sandi & Noel #gbbo
- Squirrel 🐿 (@WebSquirrel) August 29, 2017
They should have done a Christmas episode where Mel and Sue regenerated into Sandi and Noel. #GBBO
- James Theobald (@JamesTheo) August 29, 2017
Even those who are enjoying the reboot have one big problem: Noel Fielding's sugary sweet narration.
Noel Fielding's voice over doesn't sound right... #gbbo pic.twitter.com/enImZXQOzY
- Harry Broster (@TimelessHarry) August 29, 2017
Is Noel putting on a Mel & Sue narration voice .. #GBBO pic.twitter.com/lFykVFe3nA
- 🌌🌿 (@calmandreposed) August 29, 2017
5 minutes in and already I can't take Noel Fielding's narration seriously #GBBO #cringe
- Carys (@carys_waters) August 29, 2017
I’m absolutely NOT SURE on the narration though #GBBO
- HobNobRob 🍪 (@RobertWSaunders) August 29, 2017
Noel Fielding's narration is the weirdest so far 👀 #GBBO
- Miriam Amies (@MiriamAmies) August 29, 2017
Noel doing his best ‘sensible narration voice’ that’d probably be used as some kind of joke parody on The Mighty Boosh. #GBBO
- young worm❣️ (@FluffCustard) August 29, 2017
toksvig sounds a bit like she's reading the news in her VO, and Noel sounds like he's doing a bedtime story, not bad tho #GBBO
- Nick Morey (@Nick_Morey) August 29, 2017
What about new judge Prue Leith? Some actually preferred her to the sainted Mary Berry:
I'm throwing this out there... I prefer Prue Leith to Mary Berry. #gbbo
- Andy Halls (@AndyBizarre) August 29, 2017
Anyone missing Mary Berry? Nah, me neither. @noelfielding11 fits in well and #Prue seems a very good Berry replacement #GBBO
- Phil Wiseman (@PhilWiseman1979) August 29, 2017
I like Prue. She's like the evil goatee beard alt universe version of Mary. #GBBO
- Lee Binding (@LeeBinding) August 29, 2017
#GBBO Prue is much better than Mary Berry shame they kept Hollywood would have been glad to see him ditched
- jonie1303 (@jonie1303) August 29, 2017
But others remain haunted by the gentile spectre of our Mary:
Prue Leith: *breathes*

I can't allow myself to like Prue. I feel like I'm cheating on Mary. And I swear that's some form of blasphemy. #GBBO pic.twitter.com/XVW7z3I607
- 🌹 Charlotte (@_charlotte85) August 29, 2017
Do you reckon Prue had to have 'sounds really like Mary Berry' on her CV? #GBBO
- Olivia Grace (@livpurvis) August 29, 2017

me: ok, she's not mary, but give poor old prue leith a chance
*prue immediately mentions calories*
me: BURN THE WITCH BURN THE WI– #gbbo- anna leszkiewicz (@annaleszkie) August 29, 2017
Mary Berry is the gran that slips you sweets before you leave. Prue makes you go to bed early if you don't eat your veg. #ScaryBerry #GBBO
- Sophie Chadwick (@_SophieChad) August 29, 2017
Oh, an Paul is still there too:
#GBBO -good Paul's still there, Prue I'm liking but I'm missing Paul & Mary together. Sandi & Noel are no Mel & Sue yet.. I can live with it
- Anne Fairweather CC (@AnneFairweather) August 29, 2017
#GBBO it's like Paul got the house in the divorce. Still home but life isn't the same anymore. 😐🎂

Paul Hollywood is still hot #GBBO

Watching Paul cheat on Mary breaks my 💔. But I do like this bake off still. #GBBO
