Bait money helps officers track down York County bank robbery suspect

YORK COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM)– Police in York County were able to use bait money to help them track down an alleged bank robber, according to court documents.

Annette Santos, 31, of York, allegedly stole thousands of dollars from the Fulton Bank, located at 30 S. George Street, on Monday, York City Police said in the charges filed.

Right after the robbery, police say they started getting electronic tracker updates from bait money about its location.

Officers then quickly spotted a silver Hyundai and pulled it over based on the tracking information. According to the criminal complaint, Santos, who was in the passenger seat, immediately got out of the vehicle and was taken into custody.

The bank teller who was allegedly robbed by Santos was brought to the traffic stop where they told police that they were 90% sure Santos was the one who robbed them, the complaint states.

Police were told Santos came in to cash a check and she handed the teller a note that read “now give me everything in your register or you will get shot,” according to the complaint.

Santos tried telling police that someone by the name of “Taylor” who looked like her was the one who robbed the bank and made her change her clothing.

Police say when they talked to a witness in the vehicle, they stated they never heard of Taylor. They stated to police they dropped Santos off at the and waited for her, then drove away after she came out and once they were a few blocks away she handed them money for helping them which they thought was weird, the complaint states.

Police recovered $4,373.75, along with the bait money and tracker.
