A NASCAR driver got hungry during the Daytona 500 rain delay so he went to Bojangles

Sunday’s Daytona 500 has been delayed until Monday. Drivers completed just 20 laps before the race was delayed for two hours, and later officially postponed due to rain. That left a lot of time to sit around and wait. For one driver, Timmy Hill of Motorsports Business, it was time to refuel. He made a pit stop at Bojangles before stopping by the media center for an impromptu press conference.

“I found out that the NASCAR catering services were all gone, so (there was) no place to come but here in the media center, where you all have food,” Hill said. “But all they had was popcorn so I went to Bojangles and got some french fries, but the drinks are nice so I appreciate you having that for me.”

The green flag was originally scheduled to wave at 3:18 p.m. Sunday following an introduction by President Donald Trump, who served as grand marshal and did a pace lap in the presidential limo.

But the start of the race was delayed when light rain hit for nearly an hour. After the race resumed, the drivers ran 20 laps in which JTG Daugherty’s Ricky Stenhouse Jr. led all laps. Drivers were then given a caution when more rain started falling, which quickly turned into a red flag. The delay turned into a postponement a couple of hours later.

NASCAR announced the race will be moved to Monday afternoon. It will still run in three stages, which are separated at 65, 130 and 200 laps, for a total of 200 laps around the 2.5-mile track.

The Daytona 500 was last postponed in 2012.

The race is scheduled to resume from Lap 21 at 4:05 p.m. at Daytona International Speedway.
