Terrible Nintendo Tattoo Gets a Genius Makeover

Not every tattoo comes out the way you dreamed.

The question is: If your ink stinks, what do you do about it?

One Nintendo fan found an ingenious way to recover after coming home with an underwhelming portrait of Pikachu on his arm ankle.* The little Pokémon is definitely recognizable, but you’d be lucky to get a “B” if you turned it in for your high school art project. Hardly what you want on your leg for the rest of your life.

Instead of covering it over or trying to turn it into a completely new design, a Massachusetts tattoo artist named Lindsay Baker embraced the #tattoofail and turned it into something awesome.

Baker added a professional-quality portrait of the character, with an easel and paint brush. Suddenly Pikachu is painting a little self-portrait, and the amateurish quality of the original work just adds to the charm.

“Drunk Pikachu poorly draws himself whilst drinking a Heineken, because why not?” Baker wrote on her Instagram page. She thanked the customer, who uses the Instagram name @niftynarwhal.

The bright colors make it a tattoo you’d be proud to show mom. (OK, maybe not mom, but definitely your video game-loving brother or sister.) The tiny beer bottle adds some extra charm, but we might quibble about the choice of Heineken. (Sapporo, maybe?)

But overall, it shows that just when it seems like’s game over, a creative mind can respawn and play another day.

* Correction: An earlier version of this article said the tattoo was on his arm, not his leg. Yahoo Makers regrets putting its foot in its mouth, and thanks the commenters who spotted the mistake.
