It's back: Food truck round-up at Smokey Hollow with Leon County Property Appraiser
Going on its third year, the annual “Lunchtime Food Truck Round-Up" hosted by Leon County Property Appraiser's office is back for those looking for grub and to give to the United Way of the Big Bend.
The three-hour event will be held 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Wednesday at Althemese Pemberton Barnes Park, Smokey Hollow Commemoration Site, 364 S. Franklin Blvd.
“Everybody loves to eat; everybody loves a food truck,” Valencia Scott, deputy director of public relations for the office, said in an interview with the Tallahassee Democrat. “They see a food truck and get excited.”
Scott says the team has delved into many fundraising campaigns, but this one speaks to the team's drive to “serve and educate our citizens while giving back to United Way.”
Some of the city’s favorite food trucks will be offering a variety of cuisines to indulge in, from snow cones to barbecue plates and Thai foods. Patrons will have as many as five trucks to choose from.
Participating food trucks are scheduled to include Rich Rob’s Philly Stop, Tally Kombucha, Kona Ice of Tallahassee and Family Traditions BBQ, as well as Zap Zap Thai Kitchen.
A minimum of 20% of proceeds are required to be donated to the United Way of the Big Bend. Scott said that some trucks have donated “whatever’s on their hearts,” including a past donation of 100% to the organization.
“It's a great opportunity to get the community out to make sure that they are aware of any property tax exemptions that are available to them that maybe they didn't know about,” Scott said.
