Doctors at the hospital also found an injury, possibly a burn, believed to be at least a week old, police sources said.

The baby’s parents, both from Staten Island, were charged with reckless endangerment in the first and second degree. Police identified the father as 38-year-old Leonard Thompson and the mother as 36-year-old Jenice Lightfoot.

Police did not release the baby’s name. The office of the Chief Medical Examiner of the City of New York will determine the cause of death.
