This Baby Doll Was So Lifelike That Police Tried to Rescue It From a Hot Car

Everything about it seemed like a real baby

A police officer in New Hampshire broke into a car last month to rescue a young child abandoned by his parents — but the child turned out be a lifelike doll, according to local media reports.

Keene police officer Jason Short responded to a call about a child left in a car by smashing the car’s window and performing CPR. He realized it was a doll after he was unable to revive the child. “It felt like a baby,” Short told the WMUR Nine outlet. “It looked like a baby. And—and everything about it was ‘baby.’”

The lifelike doll belongs to Carolynne Seiffert, who collects dolls to cope with the death of her son. The police department will pay for the damage to her car.

Hot car deaths kill dozens of children left behind by their parents each year.
