Is Babies ‘R’ Us making a comeback? Where you can soon find shops in Stanislaus County

Six years after the Babies “R” Us store on Sisk Road in Modesto shuttered, Kohl’s announced that 200 of its stores would be home to the former retail giant.

Three Stanislaus County Kohl’s stores are included, according to the announcement: Modesto at Plaza Parkway, Riverbank at Claribel Road and Turlock at Countryside Drive.

The Babies “R” Us at Kohl’s stores will feature baby gear, furniture, activities, accessories and more. Adjacent to the shop will be Kohl’s existing baby and kids’ apparel and other offerings to “create a comprehensive baby shopping experience,” the announcement said.

The first shops will open in August and the rest will open by the end of fall.

Babies “R” Us opened in Modesto in January 2000 and announced it’s closing with a liquidation sale in mid-March 2018.

The site remained vacant until August 2019 when Mad Monk — a music, movie and clothing store — moved in.
