Dr. Seuss’ books are a childhood staple for many, and now, babies born on the beloved author’s birthday are eligible to receive a free book to jumpstart their reading journeys.

Born Theodor Seuss Geisel on March 2, 1904, Dr. Seuss was an American writer and illustrator of a plethora of beloved children’s books, according to Britannica.

His books are known for their whimsical rhymes, unusual characters and creatures and sometimes nonsensical words. His most popular titles include “The Lorax,” Green Eggs and Ham,” “The Cat in the Hat,” “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” and “Oh, the Places You’ll Go!”

To celebrate his life and contributions, National Read Across America Day – also known as Dr. Seuss Day – occurs on his birthday each year. In recent years, a renewed focus for National Read Across America Day has been highlighting diverse children's books.

In honor of Dr. Seuss Day, Dr. Seuss Enterprises will give away a free, personalized copy of the book "The Cat in the Hat" to every baby born in the U.S. on March 2, 2024.

This year, on what would be his 120th birthday, Dr. Seuss Enterprises pledges to give away free, personalized copies of “The Cat in the Hat” to every baby born in the United States on Saturday, March 2, 2024.

“Today you are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is Youer than You,” wrote Dr. Seuss in his book “Happy Birthday to You!” And we have to admit, receiving a personalized Dr. Seuss book on the day you are born is a great way to kickstart your journey of “You.”
