Axelrod Draws Parallel Between Ryan and Palin

David Axelrod, a senior adviser to President Obama, drew a parallel between Paul Ryan and Sarah Palin, John McCain’s controversial running mate in 2008 in a CBS appearance on Monday.

“There’s no doubt that the appointment … thrilled the base of the Republican Party, the Tea Party, Republicans, the social conservatives,” Axelrod said. “I saw that excitement four years ago when John McCain appointed Sarah Palin as well.”

He then added: “I don’t think it worked out very well.”

Although Romney distanced himself from Ryan’s famed budget proposal this weekend, with his campaign saying that he would draft his own, Axelrod said the policies embraced by Romney and Ryan are apt to be similar. The difference, he said, is “a choice between a punch in the nose and a knee to the groin.”
