“The Force” is strong with this baby, thanks to his imaginative father.
Baby Jack was born with craniosynostosis, a condition in which an infant skull prematurely fuses by turning into bone, altering its normal growth pattern. About one in 2,000 babies are born with the condition each year.
Doctors recommend that an infant afflicted with craniosynostosis should wear a special helmet as a corrective measure to ensure that skull growth patterns stay on track.
Jack’s father decided to spruce up his little boy’s equipment by creating an impressive collection of “Star Wars”-inspired helmets for him to wear after surgery. A family friend named Mike Sweeney posted the pictures on Imgur and Reddit, where they quickly went viral.
The baby just celebrated his first birthday, which also marked his last day wearing special protective helmets.
“Today is the last day of helmets! Happy birthday, Jack!” Sweeney wrote on his photo site.
If craniosynostosis goes untreated, the child could suffer from a variety of impairments. Little Jack is the perfect example of how to handle the situation. He is nothing but smiles despite having spent his first year of life wearing a helmet.
